Accra, July 1, 2025 — The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, has strongly denied allegations linking him to a $2.2 million fraud case involving a Singaporean national, Toh You Kang.
In a statement released by his lawyer, Gideon Tettey Tetteh, Mr. Moore categorically denied receiving $800,000 from Mr. Kang or soliciting any funds for the 2024 NDC campaign, describing the accusations as falsehoods and a smear attempt.
“Allegations that Mr. Moore solicited funds from Mr. Kang for political purposes, particularly in connection with the 2024 NDC campaign, are patently false,” the statement read.
It clarified that all campaign fundraising was transparently executed by the ‘Monitor and Win’ committee, an internal NDC body set up to enhance grassroots involvement and incentivise hardworking members.
Moore Alleges He Was Defrauded
The statement turned the narrative around, claiming that Mr. Moore was in fact a victim of fraud orchestrated by Mr. Kang. According to his legal team, Moore and his business associates filed a complaint at the Greater Accra Regional Police Command, accusing Mr. Kang of defrauding them of $3 million under false pretences.
In a further twist, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) is reportedly conducting a parallel investigation into an additional $2.8 million allegedly stolen by Mr. Kang from the same group.
No Extortion, No Passport Seizure, No Assault
The statement also addressed other circulating claims — that Mr. Moore extorted money, seized Mr. Kang’s passport, or assaulted him — labelling them as baseless, defamatory, and malicious.
“Mr. Moore has not engaged in any act of coercion, extortion, or physical assault. These allegations are deliberately fabricated to tarnish his image,” the statement emphasized.
Attorney General Petitioned
Given the scope and complexity of the matter, Mr. Moore’s legal team has petitioned the Attorney General to take over the case, asserting that it surpasses the jurisdiction of the police and requires higher-level legal oversight.
As investigations continue, Mr. Moore’s team is urging the public and media to exercise restraint and avoid prejudicial commentary until the facts are fully established.
