Ghana’s Vice President Hails Namibia’s First Female President as a Symbol of African Women’s Resilience

Accra, March 24, 2025 – Ghana’s Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has lauded the inauguration of Namibia’s first female president, H.E. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, as a landmark moment for gender equality and leadership in Africa.

In a statement on her official Facebook page on March 22, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang expressed her admiration for President Nandi-Ndaitwah’s leadership and resilience.

“Her leadership is a testament to the strength, resilience, and determination of African women,” she wrote. “May she continue to inspire men and women across the continent and prove that with courage and commitment, no dream is beyond reach.”

The Ghanaian Vice President was in Namibia as part of Ghana’s official delegation to the swearing-in ceremony of President Nandi-Ndaitwah on March 21, 2025, which also marked Namibia’s 35th Independence Day.

A Historic Leadership Transition

At 72 years old, President Nandi-Ndaitwah has served in various government positions and is a long-standing member of Namibia’s ruling SWAPO party.

Her inauguration was attended by several African leaders, international dignitaries, and representatives of regional institutions, underscoring the global significance of the event.

In her first speech as President, Nandi-Ndaitwah outlined her administration’s priorities, including:
Governance and accountability
Regional cooperation
Economic diversification
Tackling youth unemployment
Climate change policies

Her presidency is expected to usher in new policies aimed at strengthening Namibia’s economic and social development, particularly focusing on empowering women and young people.

With this milestone, Namibia joins the growing list of African nations promoting women in leadership, reinforcing a broader movement toward gender inclusivity and political transformation across the continent.
