Ghana Health Service Reassigns Regional Health Directors to Improve Service Delivery

Accra, March 6, 2025 – The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has announced a major reshuffling of Regional Health Directors, effective April 14, 2025, as part of efforts to enhance healthcare service delivery nationwide.

According to the GHS, these reassignments are designed to strengthen the healthcare system and align leadership with strategic health objectives.

Key Reassignments

Appointments at GHS Headquarters:

  • Dr Samuel Kwabena Boakye-Boateng – Moves from Upper East RDHS to Director of Policy, Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation (PPMED).
  • Dr Kennedy T.C. Brightson – Formerly Medical Superintendent at Shai-Osudoku Municipal Hospital, now Acting Director of Family Health.
  • Dr Abdulai Abukari – From Northern RDHS to Director of Special Duties.

New Regional Health Directors:

  • Dr Alberta Adjebeng Biritwum-Nyarko (Mrs.) – Moves to Central Region.
  • Dr Marion Okoh-Owusu – Moves to Bono East Region.
  • Dr Braimah Baba Abubakari – Moves to Upper East Region.
  • Dr Damien Punguyire – Moves to Eastern Region.
  • Dr Josephat Ana-Imwine Nyuzaghi – Moves to Upper West Region.
  • Dr Emmanuel Atsu Dodor – Moves to Volta Region.
  • Dr Akosua A. Owusu-Sarpong (Mrs.) – Moves to Ahafo Region.
  • Dr Chrysantus Kubio – Moves to Bono East Region.
  • Dr Paulina Clara Appiah – Moves to Western North Region.
  • Dr Godfred Kwabena Sarpong – Moves to Northern Region.
  • Dr John Ekow Otoo – Moves to North East Region.
  • Dr Robert Amesiya – Moves to Greater Accra Region (Acting RDHS).

Ensuring Efficient Healthcare Delivery

The GHS stated that these leadership changes are crucial for optimizing healthcare administration, improving service quality, and addressing regional health challenges.

“These reassignments will ensure that Ghana’s healthcare system continues to evolve to meet the growing needs of the population,” the GHS said in a statement.

The reshuffle is expected to enhance regional health service coordination, drive policy implementation, and bolster healthcare delivery nationwide.
