Accra, March 10, 2025 – The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has vowed to clamp down on road indiscipline following a tragic hit-and-run incident on the Achimota Highway, which claimed the lives of two former Achimota School students.
Acting Director-General of the NRSA, Abraham Amaliba, attributed the rising road accidents to driver and pedestrian indiscipline, stressing that enforcement of traffic laws will be intensified to curb reckless behavior.
📌 “When I took over the NRSA, I realised there were two main causes of road crashes—driver and pedestrian indiscipline. If we are able to curb these two, we will make a lot of headway,” Amaliba stated on the Citi Breakfast Show on Monday, March 10.
Tighter Enforcement & Public Awareness
🚔 The NRSA has pledged to work closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure strict compliance with road safety regulations.
📢 Amaliba also announced an upcoming nationwide public awareness campaign featuring a prominent Ghanaian personality to educate the public on responsible road use.
📌 “There will be some sanity on our roads in the coming days. We will partner with the media and run a promo on discipline,” he assured.
The latest road crash has reignited concerns over road safety and driver accountability, with Ghanaians calling for stricter penalties for reckless driving. The NRSA’s renewed commitment to law enforcement and education is expected to play a crucial role in addressing Ghana’s persistent road accident crisis.
