Accra, Ghana – March 19, 2025 – The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has issued a recall of Grand Chateaux Sangria Forte products, including the Tetra Pak (250ml) and Canned (330ml Pétillante) variants, after detecting their presence on the Ghanaian market and social media promotions.
The FDA cited violations of Sections 97, 98, and 103 of the Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851) as the primary reason for the recall, stating that the importer had failed to register the products with the authority, making their sale and distribution illegal.
Health and Safety Concerns
Beyond the lack of regulatory approval, the FDA expressed concerns over the misleading packaging and product size, warning that it could lead to accidental alcohol consumption by children, posing serious health risks.
As a precaution, the authority has advised the public not to purchase or consume the unregistered products.
Retailers Ordered to Halt Sales
Retailers and wholesalers have been directed to immediately stop selling and distributing the recalled items.
The FDA has also instructed that all stocks be returned to either the nearest outlets of Cave and Garden Ghana Limited (the importer) or FDA offices across the country.
Sanctions and Public Reporting
The FDA assured the public that it remains committed to ensuring public health and safety and confirmed that sanctions have been imposed on the importer while regulatory measures are being enforced to prevent future violations.
Consumers are encouraged to report any continued sale of the Grand Chateaux Sangria Forte products through the FDA’s official communication channels:
- Website: www.fdaghana.gov.gh
- Phone: 0551112224 / 0551112225
- Email: fda@fda.gov.gh
This latest enforcement action underscores the FDA’s commitment to ensuring food and beverage safety in Ghana and protecting consumers from unregistered and potentially harmful products.
