Government Moves to Address Challenges at 37 Military Hospital – Defence Minister

Accra, Ghana – February 14, 2025

The Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has assured Ghanaians that the government is taking decisive steps to address pressing challenges at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.

Dr. Boamah made this known in a Facebook post on Friday after a working visit to the facility. Accompanied by the Chief of the Defence Staff and other senior officers from the Ministry of Defence, the Minister described the visit as a homecoming, given his medical background.

Commitment to Healthcare Improvement

During his visit, he engaged with hospital staff, patients, and administrators to gain firsthand insight into the challenges affecting the hospital’s operations.

He emphasized that the government, under President John Dramani Mahama, is committed to implementing urgent and cost-effective solutions to enhance healthcare delivery at the hospital.

“The challenges are numerous but not insurmountable. The government is making frantic efforts to fix some urgent and critical challenges that are vital for the delivery of quality care at the hospital,” he stated.

A Broader Military Reform Agenda

The Minister further noted that his visit aligns with his wider strategy to fully assess the challenges facing the Ghana Armed Forces and develop solutions tailored to their specific needs.

“As we reset Ghana, no problem will be too steep to overcome,” he reiterated.

The 37 Military Hospital, one of Ghana’s leading medical institutions, has long been a pillar of military and civilian healthcare. The Defence Minister’s intervention signals renewed efforts to strengthen the facility’s capacity and ensure its long-term sustainability.
