Accra, March 25, 2025 – Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has filed a fresh legal challenge against the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), seeking to block the anti-corruption agency from labelling him as a ‘wanted person’ or ‘fugitive from justice.’
Legal Action Against OSP
Ofori-Atta’s legal team argues that the OSP has acted unfairly by continuing to display his photograph and personal details on its official Facebook page and other platforms, despite earlier assurances to remove them.
✔️ His motion cites a letter dated February 18, 2025, in which the OSP reportedly promised to correct the listing.
✔️ The lawsuit demands the immediate removal of his name from the wanted persons’ list.
✔️ He is also seeking a court order barring the OSP from reinstating his name without judicial approval.
Seeking Injunction & Compensation
The former minister is asking for:
🔹 An interlocutory injunction preventing the OSP from issuing any further press releases or media statements declaring him a fugitive.
🔹 A mandatory order compelling the agency to erase all references to him as a wanted individual.
🔹 Recognition of his fundamental rights, including freedom of movement, personal liberty, and the right to administrative justice under the 1992 Constitution.
Case Set for April Hearing
The High Court is expected to hear the case in April 2025. If the court grants the injunction, the Special Prosecutor will be legally barred from making any public declarations against Ofori-Atta until a final verdict is reached.
This lawsuit marks a significant escalation in tensions between Ofori-Atta and the OSP, as the former minister fights to clear his name and resist what he describes as an unjust and unconstitutional designation.
