NIB Seizes 3.3 Tonnes of Cocaine in Major Drug Bust

Cape Coast, March 4, 2025 – The National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) has intercepted a massive 3.3-tonne cocaine shipment en route to Accra from the Western Region, in what is being described as one of Ghana’s biggest drug busts.

How the Operation Unfolded

🔹 March 4, 2025 – Acting on intelligence, NIB officers stopped a tipper truck at Pedu Junction, Cape Coast.
🔹 A total of 143 sacks of cocaine were found hidden beneath sand in the truck.
🔹 The truck, traveling from Takoradi to Weija, was occupied by two suspects who were immediately arrested.
🔹 March 8, 2025 – Further investigations led officers to a suspect’s residence, where 13 more sacks and an additional bag of suspected cocaine were discovered.

Initial seizure: 2,974 kg
Additional cocaine found: 345.07 kg
Total weight: 3,319.68 kg
Purity level: 50% – 70%
Estimated street value: Over $350 million

Arrests & Ongoing Investigations

🚔 The two suspects, Isaac Quaicoe and Kenneth Cobbinah, have been remanded in custody and are set to reappear in court on April 2, 2025.
🚔 Additional suspects remain at large, and NIB is actively pursuing their arrest.

Authorities suspect that the cocaine entered Ghana by sea, transported via fishing vessels.

This seizure marks a major victory in the fight against drug trafficking in Ghana, as security agencies ramp up efforts to dismantle criminal networks.
