The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has visited the West African Pipeline Company (WAPCo) station in Tema to assess progress on ongoing maintenance work amid rising concerns over Ghana’s electricity supply.
The shutdown of the gas pipeline has been a major factor in recent power disruptions, impacting both businesses and households. However, engineers report that the maintenance work is about 70% complete, raising hopes for a quick resolution.
Authorities have assured the public that every effort is being made to stabilise the energy sector and prevent prolonged outages.
Speaking on Asempa FM on Thursday, February 20, Mr. Jinapor acknowledged the challenges but attributed them to an inherited weak energy sector.
“We inherited a very weak energy sector. Ghanaians should bear with us as we work to fix the problems permanently,” he stated.
He expressed confidence that the power supply situation would stabilise within two weeks, assuring the public of the government’s commitment to implementing lasting solutions.
