Ghana Police Investigates Death of Anti-Galamsey Taskforce Officer

Assin Domeabra, Central Region – April 2, 2025 – The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into the tragic death of General Constable John Kwabena Dogbey, a member of the Central North Regional Police Anti-Galamsey Taskforce.

Incident Details

According to a police statement, the unfortunate incident occurred during an anti-illegal mining operation at Assin Domeabra.

  • Constable Dogbey accidentally slipped and fell into the Offin River while attempting to dismantle a Chanfan machine used by illegal miners.
  • A team of divers conducted an intensive search, and his body was later recovered.
  • He was rushed to St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Foso, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
  • His body has since been transferred to the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Police Response and Support

  • The Police Administration has expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family and assured them of full support.
  • Meanwhile, the Taskforce successfully dismantled:
    • One Chanfan machine
    • Two pumping machines
    • Two excavator batteries
    • Three excavator keys with their chassis numbers
