Volta Regional Minister Urges Assembly Members to Approve Akatsi North DCE Nominee

Akatsi North, Volta Region – April 3, 2025Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has made an urgent appeal to assembly members of Akatsi North to swiftly approve Bless Kodzo Katamani as the District Chief Executive (DCE) nominee, warning that any delays could hinder the district’s development agenda and delay allowance payments for assembly members.

Call for Swift Confirmation

Addressing a gathering of traditional authorities, assembly members, and stakeholders, Gunu emphasized the critical role of local government and traditional leaders in driving progress.

  • He highlighted the government’s renewed focus on cooperation with chiefs to restore respect for traditional authorities.
  • He stressed that delays in confirming Katamani could stall key projects and hinder governance efficiency.
  • “For development, we are endorsing progress. Any delay means you are holding back the district’s agenda,” Gunu said.

Legal Framework and Assembly’s Role

Presiding Member Patrick Ahiabu clarified the constitutional and legal requirements for DCE appointments, citing the 1992 Constitution and the Local Governance Act, which mandate that two-thirds of assembly members must approve the nominee.

Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Nortsu Kotoe also called on assembly members to prioritize development, stressing that projects in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and agriculture depend on effective local governance.

“We all want progress for Akatsi North. Development projects must continue without hindrance. I urge you, our honorable assembly members, to approve the President’s nominee so that we can move forward,” Kotoe stated.

Development Challenges in Akatsi North

Akatsi North faces significant challenges, including:

  • Poor road infrastructure
  • Inadequate educational and healthcare facilities
  • Limited economic opportunities for the youth

The DCE’s role is crucial in coordinating government interventions to tackle these issues. With the nomination of Bless Kodzo Katamani, the district looks to reset its development priorities and enhance governance efficiency.

All Eyes on the Assembly’s Decision

The upcoming vote on Katamani’s confirmation will be pivotal. If approved, he will assume full responsibilities, ensuring the implementation of critical projects. If delayed, the district risks further setbacks in governance and development.

For the people of Akatsi North, the stakes are high, and the call for progress has never been louder.
