Ghana, Nigeria Police Collaborate to Return Kidnap Victims and Suspects Amid Viral Video Outrage

Accra, May 7, 2025 — The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with Nigerian authorities, is facilitating the safe return of two kidnapped Ghanaian women and the extradition of suspects linked to the high-profile abduction case that recently shocked the public.

The victims, whose harrowing ordeal was captured in a viral video, were successfully rescued in a joint operation involving the National Signals Bureau (NSB) and the Nigeria Police Force. The footage, showing the victims in distress, triggered nationwide outrage and concern, prompting swift cross-border action.

Eight suspects were arrested during the coordinated effort, with law enforcement agencies in both Ghana and Nigeria locating them in multiple hideouts across the two countries.

Speaking to the media in Accra, DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), said arrangements were being made for the safe transportation of both victims and suspects to Ghana.

“As of today, both suspects and victims are with the Nigerian authorities, and efforts are being made to transport the victims to Ghana and also extradite the suspects to Ghana to assist investigations,” she confirmed.

DCOP Donkor disclosed that the families of the kidnapped women paid a total of GHS18,000 in ransom to different mobile phone numbers before the rescue. Despite the trauma, she assured the public that the victims are currently stable.

“Information received from our counterparts in Nigeria indicates that both victims are fine. They have received routine medical checks,” she added.

The Police Service praised the seamless international collaboration and reaffirmed its commitment to combating cross-border crime and human trafficking.
