Trade Minister Holds High-Level Meeting with GUTA, AGI, FABAG to Address Market Prices

Accra, May 13, 2025 – The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, is currently locked in a crucial closed-door meeting with the leadership of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), and the Food and Beverage Association of Ghana (FABAG) to address escalating concerns over high market prices and the cost of doing business.

The emergency engagement comes amid Ghana’s modest economic rebound, characterised by a slight appreciation of the cedi and a gradual decline in inflation. Despite these macroeconomic gains, prices of goods and services remain high, raising public dissatisfaction and concern among key industry stakeholders.

Sources indicate that the meeting’s agenda includes:

  • Enforcement of fair pricing regulations
  • Review of import duties and taxes
  • Policy measures to support local industries
  • Strategies to translate macroeconomic progress into real market relief

Stakeholders are urging the government to implement practical interventions that will ease pressure on traders, manufacturers, and consumers alike.

“It’s time the economic recovery reflects in the pockets of the ordinary Ghanaian,” one industry source noted ahead of the meeting.

The discussions are expected to influence future government policy direction aimed at stabilising the domestic market and restoring consumer confidence.

The Ministry is expected to issue a communique following the conclusion of the talks, outlining key resolutions and implementation timelines.
