Sam George Demands Retraction and Apology Over Lexus Gift Allegation

Accra, May 20, 2025 — Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has formally demanded a retraction and public apology from P.K. Sarpong, a known activist of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), over claims that he received a luxury Lexus vehicle as a gift in breach of President John Dramani Mahama’s newly launched Code of Conduct for government appointees.
The allegations surfaced in a Facebook post by Sarpong, in which he accused the Minister of using an unregistered “top of the range Lexus” allegedly gifted to him by an undisclosed party. The post implied a violation of the President’s directive against public officials accepting high-value gifts to avoid conflicts of interest.
Legal Response from Sam George
In a swift and firm response, Mr. George, through his legal representatives at Korsah & Ackah @ Law, issued a cease and desist letter dated Tuesday, May 20, branding the allegations as “defamatory and injurious.”
The letter demands that P.K. Sarpong:
- Remove the Facebook post containing the allegation,
- Issue a public retraction of the claim, shared in the same forum and visibility as the original,
- Deliver an unqualified apology within seven days.

Failure to comply, the letter warns, will lead to legal action, including a defamation suit.
“The immediate removal of the said false publication from your Facebook wall. A public retraction of the statement, issued in the same manner and to the same audience as the original publication. An unqualified apology to our client,” the legal team wrote.
Sam George Clarifies Vehicle Ownership
Addressing the specific allegation, Mr. George clarified that the 2024 Lexus LX600 in question was lawfully acquired and financed via a loan through the National Investment Bank, under a government scheme available to Members of Parliament and public officials. He emphasized that the purchase adhered strictly to legal and ethical standards.
Code of Conduct in Focus
The controversy emerges just weeks after President Mahama’s administration rolled out a Code of Conduct for appointees, which mandates that any gift exceeding GH₵20,000 must be formally declared to safeguard public trust.
So far, P.K. Sarpong has not publicly responded to the demands issued by Mr. George’s legal counsel.
