The Minority in Parliament has sounded the alarm over a reported spike in COVID-19 cases at the University of Ghana, Legon, calling for urgent and decisive government intervention to prevent a potential health crisis.
Raising the issue on the floor of Parliament on Friday, Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh described the outbreak as “spiralling out of control”, cautioning that a delay in response could escalate the situation on campus and affect the broader public.
“We don’t want to go through what the country went through some time back,” the Nsawam-Adoagyire MP warned. “Let’s make hay while the sun shines. I place this call right in front of the respected Leader of the House—we need the Minister here now to do the needful.”
Annoh-Dompreh called for the immediate summoning of the Minister of Health to Parliament to address the House on the government’s response plan and containment measures being implemented at Legon.
The call comes amid growing concerns from students, faculty, and the public over a possible resurgence of COVID-19 infections, particularly as academic activities remain in full swing at the university.
The Minority insists that swift government action is critical to curbing the spread, protecting lives, and maintaining public health confidence.
