Accra, July 1, 2025 — President John Dramani Mahama has issued a passionate appeal for national unity, calling on Ghanaians to rise above tribal, religious, and political divisions that undermine Ghana’s peace and development.
Addressing the nation during the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving at the State House, President Mahama warned against the divisive forces that threaten the nation’s cohesion and urged citizens to embrace peace and mutual respect.
“Let us remain vigilant against the voices of tribalism, the voices of religious extremism and against the poison of political division. These are the seeds of division that we must never let take root in our precious nation, Ghana,” the President declared.
Unity Through Compassion
He called on citizens to use their words and actions to heal rather than harm, stressing the need to build bridges, not barriers.
“We must speak a language of peace, compassion, and mutual respect. We must build bridges, not barriers, for we are one people sharing one land and pursuing one identity and destiny,” he said.
Accountability in Leadership
The President also used the occasion to reaffirm his commitment to accountability and ethical leadership, urging all public officials to uphold the values of integrity, humility, and service.
“Public office is not a privilege for personal gain; it is a sacred trust bestowed by the people and a responsibility to serve all, especially the most vulnerable.”
He further noted:
“Even the office of the President, which by the grace of God I now hold, is not above the law.”
A Moment of National Reflection
The event drew a wide range of participants from religious leaders to politicians and civil society groups, all gathered in interfaith prayer for national peace, economic revival, and social renewal.
This year’s Day of Prayer is the first in what is expected to become an annual event, uniting Ghanaians of all backgrounds in spiritual reflection and hope for a better future.
