
President John Dramani Mahama has honoured three Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) personnel who lost their lives in the tragic Sikaman helicopter crash with posthumous promotions, recognising their selfless service and sacrifice to the nation.
The announcement was made during the final funeral rites for the eight victims of the August 6 crash, held on Friday, August 15, at the Black Star Square in Accra.
The honourees are:
- Wing Commander Peter Baafemi Anala
- Flight Lieutenant Manaen Twum Ampadu
- Flight Sergeant Mensah Addo Ernest
In his tribute, President Mahama said the gesture was a mark of eternal honour, ensuring their names and deeds remain etched in Ghana’s history. The President emphasised that their bravery and dedication in the line of duty exemplified the finest traditions of the armed forces.

The helicopter crash claimed the lives of five other distinguished Ghanaians, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah; Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; former parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East, Samuel Aboagye; and Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed.
The President described all eight as heroes whose “service lives on and legacy stands tall,” assuring their families and the military fraternity of the nation’s unending gratitude.
