Widow’s Heartbreaking Tribute to Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu at State Funeral

Naval Lieutenant Awura Adjoa Kumi-Kyere, wife of the late Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, delivered a deeply emotional tribute to her husband during the state funeral for the victims of the August 6 Sikaman helicopter crash.

Speaking at the Black Star Square on Friday, August 15, she expressed the shock, pain, and disbelief of losing her husband so suddenly. “Who would have thought that I would be standing here today, reading a tribute to you? Who could ever have imagined that death would separate us so quickly?” she said, her voice heavy with grief.

The couple met on his birthday in 2022, and she recalled the deep love they shared, describing him as her best friend, confidant, and “correct better half.” She lamented the shattered dreams and plans they had together, adding that his thoughtfulness, kindness, and quiet strength had left an indelible mark on her life.

Flying Officer Twum Ampadu died alongside Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Environment Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Muniru Mohammed, NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, and Deputy NADMO Director-General Samuel Aboagye.

The helicopter, carrying a government delegation to Obuasi for the launch of the Cooperative Mining Initiative, crashed in a forested area at Sikaman in the Adansi Akrofrom District, claiming the lives of all on board.

In her tribute, Lt. Kumi-Kyere ended with an emotional coded message — “Mike–Yankee–Sierra–Whiskey–Echo–Echo… My forever and a day” — before bidding her husband a final farewell: “Sleep well, my love. God be with you till we meet again.”
