Finance Ministry Opens Public Hearings for 2026–2029 Budget Preparation

The Ministry of Finance will this week commence public hearings as part of the preparatory process for Ghana’s 2026–2029 Budget and Economic Policy, inviting contributions from business associations, financial institutions, civil society groups, and the general public.

The move is aimed at shaping the government’s medium-term economic framework, with the 2026 budget—scheduled for presentation to Parliament on November 15, 2025—expected to prioritize job creation and private sector-led growth.

According to the Ministry, previous stakeholder submissions have significantly influenced national budgets, and this year’s process will be no different.

Job Creation at the Centre

Government has already hinted that the 2026 budget will place job creation at the core of its fiscal agenda, in line with recent World Bank recommendations that highlight the need for sustained employment opportunities to support Ghana’s economic recovery.

Stakeholder Expectations

The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has indicated that it will advocate for a further reduction in commercial lending rates and taxes to ease the cost of doing business.

Public Relations Officer Joseph Paddy stressed that while inflation and the policy rate have declined, interest rates remain high, burdening traders and slowing business growth.

The Ministry is expected to weigh such inputs as it balances fiscal discipline with the push for economic expansion over the next four years.
