GoldBod Enforces Mandatory Receipts in Gold Trade

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has begun nationwide enforcement of the mandatory use of GoldBod receipts by all licensed gold buyers, following several postponements and a grace period granted to traders to regularise their operations.
In a statement issued on Monday, August 18, 2025, GoldBod stressed that the issuance of official receipts is now a compulsory requirement for all transactions involving licensed aggregators, self-financed aggregators, and Tier 1 and Tier 2 buyers. The measure is designed to enhance transparency and strengthen regulation in Ghana’s gold trade.
Task Force for Compliance
To ensure adherence, GoldBod has deployed a task force and field inspectors nationwide. Licensed buyers are required to make their receipt booklets available for inspection and fully cooperate with the teams.
The Board also urged small-scale miners and traders to demand official receipts for every purchase, warning that failure by buyers to issue receipts constitutes a serious offence. Sanctions may include suspension or revocation of licences.
Support for Licensed Buyers
GoldBod encouraged licensed buyers who need assistance in obtaining receipt booklets to reach out to its License and Regulatory Unit via dedicated hotlines.
The enforcement, according to the Board, is a crucial step in promoting accountability, curbing malpractice, and safeguarding the integrity of Ghana’s gold sector.
