UN Secretary-General Hails Ghana as Pillar of African Stability

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has praised Ghana as a fundamental pillar in Africa’s stability and progress.
Speaking during a meeting with President John Dramani Mahama on the sidelines of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) in Japan, Mr. Guterres commended Ghana’s consistent role in promoting peace and development within the continent.
He highlighted his longstanding engagement with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), which he said deepened his appreciation of Ghana’s contributions to regional peace and stability.
“I have to say that since my time in government, I have had close relations with ECOWAS in solving some challenges within the region. Since that time, I have always considered Ghana a fundamental pillar not only in the construction of West Africa but also of the African continent,” Mr. Guterres stated.
The discussion between the UN Secretary-General and President Mahama centered on enhancing international partnerships for Africa’s development and strengthening regional cooperation to sustain peace and stability.
