Deputy Roads Minister Commissions New Offin River Bridge in Ashanti Region

The Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways, Alhassan Suhuyini, has commissioned a newly constructed bridge over the Offin River in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region, describing it as a symbol of restored safety, renewed hope, and the fulfilment of a government promise.

The new bridge replaces a dilapidated structure that had posed a serious risk to commuters, particularly farmers transporting produce from Kotokuom and nearby communities to urban markets. Years of wear from heavy-duty trucks left the old bridge with broken beams, deep cracks, and damaged pillars, making it a death trap for road users.

On March 3, 2025, Roads and Highways Minister Governs Kwame Agbodza ordered the closure of the old bridge after engineers declared it unsafe.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Suhuyini emphasized the project’s significance beyond physical construction.

“We are gathered here not just to commission a piece of infrastructure. We are here to celebrate the restoration of safety, the renewal of hope, and the fulfilment of a promise made to this community,” he said.

He further noted that the old bridge had become a symbol of danger, with images and videos shared widely on social media amplifying calls for swift intervention.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, joined Mr. Suhuyini in officially handing over the project to the community, assuring residents of continued government commitment to improving road infrastructure across the region.
