Former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to retain him as the party’s Presidential candidate for the 2028 general elections, stressing the need for unity and collective effort to reclaim political power.
Speaking to thousands of NPP supporters in Accra after submitting his nomination forms to contest the party’s flagbearership, Dr. Bawumia said his track record as Vice President demonstrates his readiness to lead Ghana with innovative and impactful policies.
“I’ve had the privilege of serving as Vice President and supporting the President and Government in our last administration with ideas that have significantly impacted the lives of millions of our people. This is what the streets refer to as being rich in ideas,” he stated.
He cited several policy interventions championed during his tenure, including the Bank of Ghana’s Gold Purchase Program, the Gold for Oil initiative, Mobile Money Interoperability, GhanaCard rollout, Zipline drone delivery services, Agenda 111, the Ghana.gov platform, and the digitization of medical records in major hospitals.
According to him, these initiatives have positioned him as “the most effective Vice President in Ghana’s history,” a performance he believes signals his capacity to become one of Ghana’s most effective Presidents.
Dr. Bawumia also underscored his style of leadership, noting that he demonstrates strength through results and not through “noise, insults, or boasting about wealth.” He further argued that his experience and recognition make him the “most prepared person” to lead the NPP into the 2028 elections and governance thereafter.
