Operators of the Bagre and Kompienga Dams in Burkina Faso, SONABEL, have announced the start of the annual spillage of excess water downstream through the White and Black Volta Rivers in Ghana.
In a transmission to the Upper East Regional NADMO office, SONABEL disclosed that the Bagre Dam’s water level currently stands at 233.99 meters with a filling rate of 86.38%, while the Kompienga Dam is at 177.66 meters.
The spilled water is expected to flow into Ghana within 48 hours, potentially causing flooding along the banks of the White and Black Volta rivers. Farmlands, homes, and properties in nearby communities are at high risk of being submerged.
NADMO has urged residents in flood-prone areas to remain alert and take precautionary measures to safeguard lives and property.
