GBC Staff Declare Director-General Persona Non Grata Over Mismanagement Claims

Unionised staff of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) have declared the Director-General, Professor Amin Alhassan, persona non grata, accusing him of mismanagement, financial impropriety, and neglect of staff welfare.
At a durbar in Accra on Thursday, August 28, 2025, Divisional Union Chairman, Sam Nat Kevor, alleged that Prof. Alhassan had abandoned GBC’s core mandate while presiding over questionable financial and administrative practices.
According to the staff, the Director-General’s contract expired in 2023, yet he remains in office, even though his salary has been suspended since March 2025 due to the absence of financial clearance.
“With all these, anyone at all would have resigned honourably, but that is not what we are made to see. Rather, he is tormenting workers who raise these issues,” Kevor said.
The union cited the sale of GBC lands in Tamale and Kumasi as a major concern, alleging that proceeds from these transactions remain unaccounted for. “In Tamale, workers returned from duty to find their bungalows earmarked for eviction, only for the site to become China Mall. In Kumasi, land meant for retirees has been sold, but details of the payments remain unclear,” Kevor added.
He further accused Prof. Alhassan of providing inconsistent answers at the Public Accounts Committee regarding the transactions.
Calling for urgent intervention, the workers urged the appointing authorities to remove the Director-General immediately, warning that continued inaction could cripple the state broadcaster.
“Now, GBC is a crime scene, and we need to uncover all these. The Corporation is near collapse, and we cannot have a Director-General whose contract has expired still signing cheques and official documents on behalf of GBC,” Kevor stressed.
