The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has confirmed the arrival of a team of international experts to support investigations into the tragic military helicopter crash of August 6, 2025, in the Dampia Range Forest Reserve near Brofoyedru-Sikaman in the Adansi Akrofrom District.
The accident claimed the lives of the Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and six others.
Dr. Amoakohene said the investigators have been directed to engage key stakeholders, stressing that full cooperation will be critical to uncovering the cause of the crash. He expressed optimism that the collaboration between local and international experts would help prevent future tragedies of this kind.
On another front, the Minister endorsed the Inspector General of Police’s (IGP) decision to withdraw the special task force deployed to enforce environmental regulations in mining areas, particularly in the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.
He explained that although the task force had been effective in its operations, its centralised approach excluded critical stakeholders such as Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), regional ministers, and traditional leaders.
“Security management cannot be centralised since community relations are built on dialogue and collaboration at the local level,” Dr. Amoakohene stated.
He further noted that the new reforms would integrate community structures into the fight against illegal mining, giving local communities a greater sense of ownership in safeguarding the environment.
