Woyome warns Black Stars to raise performance ahead of Mali clash

Former Chairman of Parliament’s Select Committee on Sports, Wisdom Kobla Mensah Woyome, has urged the Black Stars to avoid repeating their sluggish display against Chad as they prepare for a decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Mali.
Ghana managed only a 1-1 draw with Chad in their matchday seven fixture on Thursday, September 4, 2025, a result that prevented them from extending their lead at the top of Group I. The outcome has now piled pressure on the team ahead of the must-win clash against Mali on Monday, September 8, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Sharing his concerns, Mr. Woyome said the team lacked urgency and fluidity in their play.
“I normally will not want to be one of the thousands of coaches in addition to Otto Addo. However, I wasn’t happy. It seems our team was slow. They delayed on the ball and moved it around their own half. We will be happy to look at the report to know what actually happened. If this is the way we are going to the Malian game on Monday, I will not be sure of our fate,” he remarked.
The Black Stars are under pressure to secure all three points against Mali to boost their qualification chances and restore confidence among fans following the disappointing Chad performance.
