NCA Confirms Multichoice Ghana’s Participation in DSTV Pricing Review Committee

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has confirmed that it has received a formal response from Multichoice Ghana regarding its notice of intention to suspend the company’s authorisation and request for a review of its pricing model.
According to the NCA, the first meeting of the Stakeholder Committee on DSTV pricing will be held on Monday, September 8, 2025.
This development follows a warning from the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, that the government would shut down Multichoice Ghana’s DStv operations on September 6 if the company failed to engage in discussions on subscription price reductions.
Multichoice Ghana had earlier denied reports that it had agreed to lower prices, stating in a September 5 press release that while it remains open to dialogue, no decision had been made on fee reductions.
In a follow-up statement issued on September 7, the NCA confirmed that engagements with Multichoice Ghana have continued, with the company making three key commitments:
- Acceptance of government’s directive – Multichoice Ghana has agreed to the Minister’s directive to establish a Stakeholder Committee to review DSTV pricing in Ghana and pledged to fully participate.
- Committee outcome binding – The company acknowledged that the final outcome of the committee’s review will determine the next steps.
- Respect for due process – Multichoice reaffirmed its commitment to abide by Ghanaian laws and due process throughout the review process.
The Authority assured the public that further updates on the matter will be communicated as the committee’s work progresses.
