Otto Addo Pleased with Black Stars’ Win Over Mali, Cautions on Missed Chances

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has expressed satisfaction with Ghana’s hard-fought 1-0 victory over Mali in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, while raising concerns about his team’s missed opportunities.

Ghana sealed the win at the Accra Sports Stadium through Alexander Djiku’s clever 49th-minute finish, keeping the Black Stars at the top of Group I.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Addo acknowledged his side’s strong defensive display but admitted that the team could have done better in attack.

“We had some chances to finish the game, counters where we maybe could have scored the second goal but we couldn’t take advantage of these situations,” he said. “We really fought well… thanks to the defense, they really gave their all and defended well and yeah, I’m happy that we won.”

The win extends Ghana’s lead in Group I with 19 points from eight matches, three ahead of second-placed Madagascar, who sit on 16 points.
