A major police operation in the Upper Denkyira West District has uncovered a disturbing human trafficking and exploitation ring, leading to the arrest of 39 individuals for alleged prostitution and drug-related offences.
The Central North Regional Police Command, acting on intelligence, stormed a location in Nipanekro near Subin, where they discovered what authorities described as a “modern-day slavery network.”
Out of those arrested, 33 were young Nigerian women aged between 16 and 25. Police say the women were trafficked into Ghana and forced into prostitution. The remaining six suspects, all men, are alleged to have facilitated the drug trade that supported the operation.
Addressing the media, Central North Regional Police Commander ACP Abraham Acquaye described the conditions under which the women were kept as appalling. He stressed that the women are not being treated as criminals but as “victims of circumstance.” They are expected to be handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for repatriation to Nigeria.

In harrowing testimonies shared with Adom News’ Alfred Amoh, some of the victims recounted severe abuse at the hands of their alleged ring leader, identified only as “Mama Rich.” According to them, they were forced to meet strict daily revenue targets—GH¢1,000 on Mondays and GH¢500 on other days. Failure to meet these quotas reportedly resulted in grotesque punishments, including being forced to eat the faeces of their boss.
The victims further revealed that they were subjected to chilling rituals at a shrine, where they were made to swear oaths while naked. They said this psychological manipulation was designed to instill fear, with threats that they would go mad if they attempted to escape.
Police estimates suggest that each victim was coerced into sleeping with up to 20 men daily in order to meet the imposed financial demands.
Meanwhile, the six male suspects remain in custody and are being investigated for their alleged role in facilitating the trafficking and drug operations.
Police say the bust highlights the cruel realities of human trafficking, where vulnerable individuals are exploited through physical abuse, financial extortion, and psychological enslavement.
