Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo, affectionately known as “Kantanka, the African Star,” has passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 11, 2025, his family and the Kristo Asafo Church have announced.
The revered preacher, innovator, philanthropist, agriculturalist, and industrialist leaves behind an extraordinary legacy that transcends faith, technology, and community service. A verse from Romans 14:8 was cited in the family’s statement to reflect his devotion: “For if we live, we live to the Lord and if we die, we die to the Lord.”
As the founder of the Kantanka brand, Apostle Safo revolutionised Ghana’s technological and industrial landscape, building vehicles and machinery locally while inspiring confidence in African innovation. Beyond engineering, he was also celebrated for his vast contributions to agriculture, education, and philanthropy, with many describing him as “a true genius, a beacon of hope, and a father to the fatherless.”
The announcement noted that Ghana has lost “a gallant son and a true legend,” with tributes expected to pour in from across the country and beyond in the coming days.
Funeral and burial arrangements, according to a statement signed by his daughter and former MP Sarah Adwoa Safo, will be communicated at a later date.
