President Mahama Launches Big Push Infrastructure Programme to Boost National Connectivity

President John Dramani Mahama has pledged that every region in Ghana will benefit from his government’s flagship Big Push infrastructure programme, launched on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at Afienya in the Greater Accra Region.

The initiative, according to the president, aims to open up economic opportunities, improve food distribution networks, ease inter-regional travel, and stimulate industrial growth across the country.

“From January 7, we have been designing road projects across the length and breadth of the country. The Big Push touches all 16 regions of the country. Every region is going to benefit from its share of the Big Push programme,” President Mahama assured.

Outlining the project’s priorities, he explained that the first phase will focus on inter-regional roads linking regional capitals, making travel between major cities more efficient.

“Our priority was to take roads that connect one regional capital to another. We believe that it should be easy for people to travel from one capital to another, for example, from Accra to Ho, or Accra to Cape Coast,” he said.

The second phase targets district-level connectivity, with road projects linking the country’s 261 district capitals to one another.

The third phase will prioritize roads in food-producing and industrial manufacturing areas, with the aim of supporting agriculture, boosting industrial output, and strengthening distribution channels nationwide.
