Roads Minister Assures Timely Completion of Big Push Project

Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has given firm assurances that the newly launched ‘Big Push’ road project in Afienya, Greater Accra Region, will be completed within 24 months.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, the Minister described the initiative as a “bold intervention” beyond politics, and the largest single commitment to Ghana’s road sector in history.

Mr. Agbodza acknowledged the Ministry’s GH¢40 billion debt owed to contractors but stressed that the government remained determined to deliver.
“Mr President, if you come to the Ministry of Roads and Highways, we owe probably GH¢40 billion in debt to contractors. But when we went round the 16 regions, it was difficult to see what the money was spent on,” he said.

He commended President John Dramani Mahama for spearheading the programme, noting that it would set a new benchmark in infrastructure development.
“The Big Push is not a campaign promise; it is a bold intervention by your government,” he emphasised.

On fears of delays, the Minister reassured residents of Greater Accra and the Ga-Dangbe area that the project was in capable hands.
“When we say we can do this project within 24 months, we mean business. The contractor on this stretch, I believe, can do this project in less than 24 months,” he affirmed.

The government has allocated GH¢13.85 billion (US$892.9 million) for the programme, with strict monitoring measures in place to ensure timelines and delivery are met.
