Thomas Partey Pleads Not Guilty to Rape and Sexual Assault Charges

Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey has pleaded not guilty to five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, with his trial set to begin on November 2, 2026.
According to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in the UK, the former Arsenal star faces two counts of rape involving one woman and three counts involving another, while the sexual assault charge relates to a third woman. Partey has denied all allegations.
The 32-year-old entered his plea at Southwark Crown Court on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, appearing in court dressed in black trousers, a quarter-zip jumper, and a blue jacket.
The hearing came just hours after Partey featured for his new club, Villarreal, in a UEFA Champions League match against Tottenham Hotspur, where he was booed by Spurs fans. Villarreal lost the game 1-0.
The alleged incidents are said to have occurred between 2021 and 2022. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the first complaint was received in February 2022, with Partey being formally charged after leaving Arsenal in June this year.
Earlier, Partey was granted bail under strict conditions, including a ban on contacting the women involved. His lawyer has maintained that the midfielder “denies all the charges against him” and is eager to “clear his name.”
Partey signed for Villarreal on August 7, 2025, a move that initially sparked protests from some of the club’s supporters. His plea hearing, originally scheduled for September 2 at the Old Bailey, was adjourned without explanation before Wednesday’s court appearance.
