Zanetor urges EOCO Probe into Alleged Takeover of CMB Abuja Market Land

The Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has called on the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to investigate the alleged encroachment and takeover of the Accra CMB Abuja Market land by private developers.
Her demand follows a protest on Tuesday by traders and transport unions in the CMB enclave, who accused developers of forcibly taking over land belonging to the Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA).
According to the traders, the development has displaced many of them onto the streets, worsening traffic congestion and creating safety hazards in one of Accra’s busiest commercial zones.
Speaking to journalists, Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings condemned the development, insisting that the land is state property and should not be transferred to private hands under unclear circumstances.
“It is very clear that this land is state land and should not be taken over by private individuals, especially when we are not sure who is giving the permission,” she said.
The legislator further urged the Minister of Transport, under whom the GRDA operates, to clarify government’s position on the land and provide assurances to restore calm among affected traders.
She stressed the urgent need for EOCO’s intervention, pointing out that the CMB Abuja Market enclave plays a crucial role in Ghana’s informal economy.
“This is causing a huge uproar in terms of people’s stability. A huge part of our informal sector is situated in the CMB Abuja Market enclave,” she added.
