22 Suspects Arrested for Galamsey in Western Region, Remanded by Court

๐Ÿ“ Western Region, Ghana โ€“ April 8, 2025 โ€” In a major crackdown on illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, the Western Central Police Command has arrested 22 individuals across Dominase Nkwanta, Adjakaa Manso, and surrounding areas.

The operation, conducted on April 8, was intelligence-led and aimed at tackling the persistent menace of illegal mining in the region.

Items Seized from Operation

Deputy Western Central Regional Commander, ACP Bismark Agyapong, confirmed the recovery of:

๐Ÿ”น 7 shovels
๐Ÿ”น 1 pickaxe
๐Ÿ”น 2 changfang machines

โ€œAll the suspects are in police custody and are being processed to face the full rigours of the law,โ€ ACP Agyapong stated during a press briefing.

Court Proceedings Underway

The suspects have been arraigned before the Asankrangwa District Court and have been remanded into custody to assist with ongoing investigations.

The police say investigations are ongoing, and more arrests could follow.
