National Service Personnel to Undergo Military Training from August — NSA Announces

ACCRA, Ghana — April 24, 2025 — The National Service Authority (NSA) has unveiled plans to introduce a short-term military training programme for National Service Personnel (NSPs), set to commence on August 3, 2025, under the new National Service Emergency Response Readiness Programme (NSERRP).

The announcement came after a high-level meeting on Wednesday, April 23, between the NSA and the Ghana Armed Forces’ High Command.

According to the NSA, the initiative aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s directive during his maiden State of the Nation Address on February 27, 2025. The programme is designed to promote discipline, nationalism, and physical fitness among Ghanaian graduates preparing to serve the nation.

Speaking during the meeting, NSA Director-General Felix Gyamfi said the military training forms part of a broader strategy aimed at national reorientation and youth empowerment.

“The introduction of this military training is a step in the right direction and must be embraced by all as one of the indicators for resetting the country, particularly the youth,” Gyamfi noted.

Brigadier General Amoah-Boakye, who represented the Ghana Armed Forces at the meeting, pledged the military’s full commitment to supporting the programme’s implementation.

The training is expected to last up to two months and will provide service personnel with basic military drills and orientation, including teamwork, emergency response skills, and leadership development. The NSA views this as a vital part of Ghana’s long-term national development and security preparedness plan.

Further details on training centres and logistics are expected in the coming months.
