Somanya police probe suspected murder of tricycle rider found naked and burnt

Police in Somanya have launched investigations into the suspected murder of a 30-year-old tricycle rider, Otu Samuel, whose charred tricycle and lifeless body were discovered in the early hours of Saturday, May 3.

The body of the deceased was found lying naked in a supine position near a gutter at Dorhetso, a suburb of Somanya in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region. His tricycle, with registration number M-23-GR 7942, was discovered engulfed in flames beside him.

According to multiple eyewitness accounts, Otu Samuel and unidentified passengers in the tricycle were allegedly chased to the scene around 2 a.m. after being accused of theft. While the others reportedly managed to escape, Samuel was left behind.

Despite the serious nature of the incident, residents interviewed by police claimed they neither heard any commotion nor witnessed any mob attack on the victim.

The police transported the body to the Yilo Krobo District Hospital, where a physician assistant confirmed Samuel was dead on arrival. His remains have since been deposited at the hospital’s morgue for preservation and autopsy.

No arrests have been made as of yet. Police are appealing to members of the public who may have information on the incident to assist in their ongoing investigation.
