Police Arrest Key Suspect in Murder of Immigration Officer Stephen Amoah

The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a prime suspect in connection with the gruesome death of Immigration Officer Stephen King Amoah, whose charred body was discovered on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, after he was reported missing for five days.
The suspect, identified as Bright Aweh, was picked up after police investigations linked him directly to the officer’s disappearance and subsequent murder.
According to a statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, Aweh was the last known person to have contacted Amoah. Police say Aweh lured Amoah to a meeting under the pretext of settling a financial obligation.
Investigations revealed that Aweh had earlier sent WhatsApp images of large bundles of cash to Amoah and requested a meeting at Ashongman Estate on the night of July 3, 2025. That meeting was the last time Amoah was seen alive.
During police interrogation, Aweh claimed to have handed GHS 500,000 in cash to the deceased, allegedly for debt payments and safekeeping. However, he failed to explain the source of the funds and reportedly gave conflicting accounts, further deepening suspicions about his involvement in the officer’s death.
Amoah’s body was discovered severely burnt in a gutter near the GBC Satellite area, opposite Comet Estate in Accra. Despite the extensive burns, the body was later identified by family members at the Police Hospital morgue.
The Police Command has urged the public to volunteer any additional information that could assist with investigations. Citizens are encouraged to report tips to the nearest police station or call emergency hotlines 18555 or 192.
