NIA Warns Ghanaians Against Aiding Foreigners to Illegally Acquire Ghana Cards

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has issued a stern warning to Ghanaians who assist foreign nationals to illegally acquire the Ghana Card, stating that their digital systems can easily identify and track such individuals.

At a press briefing on Monday, August 4, the NIA’s Head of Corporate Affairs, Williams Emmanuel Ampomah Dallas, cautioned that those involved in vouching fraudulently will soon face prosecution.

“If you are a foreigner and you desire to have the ECOWAS identity card, which is the citizens’ card, there are processes you go through to legally acquire the card. Anything aside from the legal procedures… is illegal,” Mr. Dallas stated.

He revealed that the NIA is currently prosecuting over 20 individuals, including some Ghanaians who knowingly vouched for foreign nationals to acquire the citizenship card illegally.

“Those of you who are also vouching for people you don’t even know and have made the vouching process a business from the North to Volta—we are coming for you.”

Officers Under Watch for Extortion

The NIA also disclosed it is aware of some officers extorting money or charging unapproved fees from card applicants. The Authority said such personnel will face both disciplinary and legal action, stressing its commitment to operating an institution free from illegality and extortion.

The NIA reminded the public that most basic services are free at district offices. Below is the official fee list:

At District Offices:
