Former Arsenal Midfielder Thomas Partey Granted Bail in Rape and Sexual Assault Case

Former Arsenal and Ghana international midfielder Thomas Partey has been granted conditional bail after appearing before the Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London on Tuesday morning, August 5, 2025. Partey, 32, is facing five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault involving three women over alleged incidents that occurred between 2021 and 2022, while he was still playing for Arsenal.

According to the Crown Prosecution Service, Partey is:

  • Accused of two counts of rape against one woman,
  • Three counts of rape against a second woman,
  • And one count of sexual assault against a third.

Court Appearance

Partey appeared in court wearing a black zip-neck jumper, standing silently in the dock. The court granted conditional bail, which includes:

  • A ban on contacting any of the alleged victims,
  • A requirement to inform police about any permanent address change or international travel plans.

The presiding judge, Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring, acknowledged that Partey is currently without a club in England and is finalizing a move to Spanish side Villarreal.

Legal Position

Partey’s lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, stated during the hearing that her client “denies all the charges against him” and is looking forward to “finally clearing his name.”

The case has been transferred to the Old Bailey, where it is scheduled to resume on September 2, 2025.

The footballer, whose contract with Arsenal expired in June, has not issued a personal statement as investigations continue.
