NDC’s Prof. Alidu Mahama Seidu files nomination for Tamale Central by-election

The newly elected National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Tamale Central, Prof. Alidu Mahama Seidu, has officially filed his nomination with the Electoral Commission to contest the constituency’s upcoming by-election, slated for Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

Prof. Seidu, a political science lecturer, emerged victorious in the party’s primary held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at the Alhaji Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, securing 840 votes out of 1,511. His closest rival, Abdul Hannan Gundado, polled 536 votes, while nine others shared the remaining ballots.

Meanwhile, Tamale Metro EC Director, Anaba Samson, revealed that four additional aspirants—representing the All People’s Congress (APC), Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), People’s National Convention (PNC), and an Independent candidate—have picked nomination forms but are yet to submit them. The deadline for submission is Wednesday, September 10, 2025.

The by-election follows the tragic death of the sitting MP, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who perished in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, alongside seven others.
