Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has declared his willingness to contest the presidency if the government fails to address the concerns and improve the living conditions of the country’s youth.
Speaking during ShattaFest 2026, the musician expressed frustration over what he described as the failure of the government to create better opportunities for young people, suggesting that the youth may have to take matters into their own hands.
“If government no go find work for we, we go find work do,” Shatta Wale said, adding that he would consider running for president if the situation persisted.
“And if they vex, me Shatta Wale, ago go for presidency, we go vote and ago win,” he declared.
His comments, delivered in his characteristic outspoken style, drew attention to concerns about youth unemployment, economic hardship and the need for greater opportunities for young Ghanaians.
Shatta Wale, known for his influence among young people and his willingness to speak on social issues, said he was prepared to stand up for the youth, particularly over concerns that successive efforts to improve their livelihoods had not yielded the desired results.
The musician’s remarks also highlighted the growing frustration among some young people over access to jobs, economic opportunities and the prospect of building sustainable livelihoods in Ghana.
Although it remains unclear whether his comments signal a serious intention to enter active politics or were made as an expression of frustration during the event, the declaration has placed the possibility of a presidential bid in the spotlight.
Shatta Wale has built a strong following among Ghanaian youth through his music, public engagements and outspoken commentary on national issues. His influence has often extended beyond entertainment, making his views on governance and the welfare of young people a subject of public interest.
His statement at ShattaFest is likely to fuel further discussions about the role of entertainers in politics and whether popular public figures could translate their influence into political support.
For now, the focus remains on his call for improved opportunities for Ghanaian youth and his declaration that he would be willing to seek the highest political office if he believes the government is failing to meet their needs.
