Hearts of Oak communications director Kwame Opare Addo has rejected reports that the club owes its players three months’ salaries and three outstanding match-winning bonuses, insisting that the claims are inaccurate.
The reports had raised questions about the financial commitments of the Ghana Premier League side to their playing squad, but Opare Addo says there are no outstanding salary arrears of the scale being suggested.
Speaking to Ahenfie FM, he maintained that the only salary yet to be settled relates to October, which has not yet ended.
“In the first place, there are no such things like three months’ outstanding unpaid salaries or bonuses that the management of the club has not paid to our players. There is nothing like that,” he said.
“If it is an issue with unpaid wages for this very month, which is yet to end, I will not run away from it, but to say we owe players some three months’ arrears is never true,” he added.
Opare Addo also sought to reassure supporters that the club remained committed to paying players what they were owed, including bonuses earned through their performances on the pitch.
“Whatever is due them after every game, including bonuses, we will make sure it is worked on and delivered to them. As the motivation continues to come, the players also continue to work well,” he said.
He further promised that any outstanding bonuses due for the current month would be paid before the team’s next fixture.
“Even before we play our next game, whatever bonus is due to whoever for this very month will be honoured before the next fixture,” Opare Addo stated.
The comments come as Hearts of Oak continue their Ghana Premier League campaign, with the Accra-based club level on points with leaders Medeama.
The Phobians are scheduled to travel to face Debibi United in their Matchday Nine fixture this weekend, with attention turning to their efforts to maintain their position among the league’s leading sides.
For Hearts supporters, the immediate focus will be on the team’s upcoming fixture, as the club looks to maintain its momentum in the league.
