A young Ghanaian man identified as Prince Abdul Malik has been shot dead in Etobicoke, west of Toronto, Canada, following a shooting incident on Saturday afternoon.
Malik was reportedly shot around Rathburn Road and The East Mall shortly before 4:30 p.m. on November 7, 2026.
According to The State News, a Ghanaian woman living in Canada recounted how the young man was shot and subsequently died from his injuries.
Several Ghanaians on social media have also identified the deceased as Prince Abdul Malik, although Canadian police have yet to officially release his identity.
The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC News) and CP24, which reported the incident, said Toronto police received a distress call shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Saturday concerning a shooting around Rathburn Road and The East Mall.
Police officers who arrived at the scene found a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds.
According to CBC News, Toronto Police Inspector Jeff Allington told reporters that the victim was rushed to hospital but later died from his injuries.
CP24 also reported that life-saving measures were performed on the victim before he was transported to hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced dead.
The police have not officially established the victim’s age, but Allington said he was believed to be in his teens or early twenties.
Police are searching for at least two male suspects who were reportedly dressed in dark clothing.
The homicide unit has taken over the investigation, which authorities say is still in its early stages.
“We’re in the very early stages of this investigation, and you can expect to see officers out canvassing in the neighbourhood,” Allington said, according to CP24.
He also expressed concern about the impact of the shooting on residents and workers in the area, assuring the community that additional officers would be deployed to maintain security while investigations continued.
“We understand that an event like this can be very traumatic for the community and the members that reside and work in the area,” he said, according to CBC News.
“We want to assure you that we are also concerned about this, and we will be having extra officers out in the neighbourhood for the next few hours and probably tomorrow during the day as we continue on this investigation.”
Following the shooting, police closed the northbound section of The East Mall at Rathburn Road to allow investigators to examine the scene.
Authorities have appealed to anyone with information about the shooting or the suspects to come forward.
The killing comes less than two weeks after a Ghanaian teenager, 15-year-old Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong, was shot dead while walking to school in the Bronx, New York, in the United States.
Frimpong was shot in the abdomen shortly before 9:30 a.m. on October 29, 2026, in the Claremont neighbourhood. He was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
New York police are searching for three teenage suspects in connection with the killing, while his father has alleged that the shooting may be linked to bullying at his son’s school. Police have not confirmed any connection between the alleged bullying and the shooting.
The killing prompted the Ghanaian government to demand a thorough investigation and pledge legal and consular support to the family. His mother, Doris Adu Gyamfi, subsequently travelled from Ghana to the United States after President Donald Trump agreed to grant her an emergency visa to attend her son’s funeral.
