New York City Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani has announced that US President Donald Trump has agreed to grant an immediate visa to the mother of 15-year-old Ghanaian boy Javits Frimpong to enable her to travel to the United States and attend her son’s funeral.
The mayor disclosed this in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, October 31, 2026, following a telephone conversation with President Trump.
According to Mamdani, the President agreed to facilitate the visa after he raised the matter with him, giving the grieving mother an opportunity to travel to America and bid her son a final farewell in person.
“The murder of a child is a pain no parent should have to endure, let alone from thousands of miles away,” the mayor wrote.
He added that Javits’ mother deserved the opportunity to say goodbye to her son personally, stressing that President Trump had agreed to grant her visa immediately.
“Javits Frimpong’s mother deserves to say goodbye to her son in person. I just got off the phone with President Trump and he has agreed to grant her visa immediately,” he stated.
The mayor further expressed solidarity with the bereaved family, saying the entire city of New York was mourning the tragedy.
Javits Frimpong, a 15-year-old Ghanaian boy, was reportedly shot and killed while walking to school in the Bronx, New York.
His death has sparked widespread grief and renewed concerns about youth violence and the safety of students in the United States.
The teenager’s father, Thomas Frimpong, had earlier spoken publicly about the devastating loss, describing his son as his “everything” and revealing that the boy had reportedly complained about being bullied by schoolmates before the fatal incident.
The announcement by Mayor Mamdani is expected to bring some relief to the grieving family, particularly Javits’ mother, who can now look forward to travelling to the United States to participate in her son’s final funeral rites.
However, details of the visa processing arrangements and the mother’s expected travel date have not yet been disclosed.
