The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has secured a court order to arrest the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah.
An Accra High Court, which granted the order on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, directed EOCO to execute the arrest through the Speaker of Parliament.
Lawyers for EOCO filed the application after its officers exhausted what they described as reasonable means of getting the MP to voluntarily appear before the investigative body to assist with investigations relating to SIC Life Savings and Loans.
They added that they feared documents relevant to the investigation could be concealed, altered or destroyed, hence the request for a warrant to arrest the MP and to search for and seize relevant documents.
The latest development follows an attempted arrest of the MP by EOCO officers at the Accra High Court on September 23, 2026.
EOCO subsequently explained that the attempted arrest formed part of steps to secure Baffour Awuah’s attendance in an investigation after he allegedly failed to honour two invitations issued to him in February 2026.
Baffour Awuah, however, has challenged EOCO’s account and provided a different explanation for the events surrounding the September 23 incident.
According to him, the investigation relates to SIC Life Savings and Loans Company, which had previously engaged his former law firm, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners.
He said after receiving EOCO’s February invitation, he referred the matter to the Clerk to Parliament, after which a representative of his former law firm appeared before EOCO investigators on March 4, March 18 and April 30.
