The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has condemned all forms of violence against women and children following the circulation of videos and images purportedly involving actress and socialite Nana Akua Addo and her child.
The material, which has gained widespread attention on social media, includes images appearing to show Nana Akua Addo with injuries, alongside separate footage purportedly depicting a child being physically assaulted.
Although the circumstances surrounding the recordings have not yet been fully established, the Ministry said the reports were deeply concerning and stressed that violence must never be treated as acceptable behaviour.
In a statement, the Ministry said no domestic dispute, relationship, disagreement or alleged provocation could be used to justify violence or abuse.
It warned that anyone found to have subjected another person to violence or abuse could face the consequences of the law.
The Ministry said it was engaging the relevant institutions to establish what actually occurred and determine the appropriate response.
It added that it was monitoring developments closely while taking steps to establish the safety and wellbeing of those allegedly involved.
Beyond the specific case, the Ministry urged women and other victims of domestic or gender-based violence to seek help rather than remain silent or accept abuse as part of a relationship.
It stressed that victims should not be blamed for the abuse they suffer and encouraged anyone experiencing violence, or anyone with credible information about a person believed to be at risk, to report the matter to the nearest police station or Social Welfare office.
The Ministry’s intervention comes amid intense public discussion over the circulating material, with Nana Akua Addo’s legal team separately maintaining that the footage was released without her knowledge or consent.
Her lawyers have also appealed to media organisations and members of the public to stop sharing or republishing the material, particularly recordings involving her minor children.
