Two miners have died after reportedly losing consciousness inside a mining pit at Juaboso in the Western North Region.
The two men reportedly entered the pit around midday on Saturday, September 26, to carry out mining activities but did not return as expected.
Their prolonged absence raised concern on Sunday morning, prompting a friend to enter the pit in search of them.
He reportedly found both men in a weak and distressed state, after which residents joined efforts to bring them out and transport them to the Juaboso Government Hospital.
The two were pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
One of the victims has been identified as Richard Oduro, popularly known as Churches, a resident of Juaboso township. The identity of the second man, who was said to be a stranger in the community, remains unknown.
Initial reports suggest that overheating and inadequate ventilation underground may have contributed to the incident, although authorities have not officially confirmed the cause of the deaths.
