Akosua Manu Questions Credibility of Mahama’s Probe into Alleged Drug Trafficking at KIA

Accra, April 8, 2025 – Former Deputy CEO of the National Youth Authority, Akosua Manu, has cast doubt on the credibility of President John Dramani Mahama’s directive to investigate allegations of suspected drug trafficking and money laundering at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

Doubts Over Government’s Impartiality

📺 Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One News, Manu expressed skepticism about the objectivity of the probe, which was launched following claims by Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, Ranking Member of the Defence Committee.

📌 Fordjour alleged that two aircraft, including an AirMed jet, may have been used for illegal activities.

Criticism of Government Spokesperson’s Response

🚨 Manu accused Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu of compromising the investigation by sharing “questionable” videos to justify the aircraft’s extended stay.

🔹 “The bottom line of this is, I don’t even trust the probe that the President is asking for. Because his spokesperson has already implicated the matter,” she said.

🔹 She claimed that Kwakye Ofosu provided misleading information about:
✔️ The reason for the aircraft’s stay
✔️ The maintenance schedule
✔️ The route of the aircraft

💬 “He told barefaced lies. He lied about the maintenance part, he lied about the aircraft, he lied about the maintenance schedule, and the route.”

Call for an Independent Probe

⚖️ Citing inconsistencies and potential cover-ups, Manu demanded a bipartisan investigation, arguing that an independent committee is necessary to ensure transparency.

📌 “I am calling for a bipartisan committee to look into the matter,” she stated.

Background of the Investigation

🔍 President Mahama ordered a comprehensive probe on April 1 following Fordjour’s allegations at a press conference.

📢 In response, Felix Kwakye Ofosu explained on April 6 that the aircraft had remained in Ghana due to damaged landing gear tyres, requiring engineers to be flown in for repairs.

Key Questions Raised

❓ Was there an attempt to mislead the public?
❓ Are there inconsistencies in the government’s account?
❓ Will an independent probe be launched?
